Munin Borua (Barua) (Assamese: মুনিন বৰুৱা), popularly known as “Bhaaimon Da” is an Assamese movie director. He is famous for making commercially hit family oriented movies in Assamese language. When Assamese movie industry was gloomy, his block baster movie  “Hiya Diya Niya” starring Jotin Bora created history in the year 2000 and it revived the Assamese movie industry and set the beginning of a new era. “Ramdhenu” was one among the highest grosser Assamese movie of all time. He made his directorial debut with  Protima in 1987.

Munin Borua was born on 5th November 1946, in Khoomtai, Golaghat District, Assam, India. Hemendra Nath Borua and Lotika Borua, were his parents.

His film ‘Dinobondhoo” based on Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia’s novel “Joutook” (Eng. Dowry), received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese in 2004.

Apart from movie direction, Munin Borua is a well known script writer as well. He has written number of scripts for Assamese mobile theaters and local VCD movies. He directed 90’s popular television series in Assamese language “Paapu Nikoor Xhongbaad”. He wrote the script of block baster Assamese movies like Boowari, Ghor Songsar, Mon Mondir,  Xhoon Moina etc.

Borua breathed last on 7th April, 2018 at his residence in Kahilipara, Guwahti, Assam. He was survived by his wife Monjula Borua who is also an actor, son Manas and daughter Puja (Mayurakshi).

During his last days, Munin Borua was planning another movie “Poth Upopoth”.
