Sondhya Raag, an Assamese Movie ( Xhondhya Raag ) (Eng. Evening Melody), released on 5th August 1977. Direction, Producing, screenplay & dialogue by Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia ( Xhoikia). The story is based on a novel “Banoprostho” written by Dr. Saikia himself. The film is from the point of view of the two housemaids.are working in a city in two different homes as housemaid. Story: Sondhya Raag is a story of a widowed mother who stays along with her two daughters Charu and Toru, in a remote village. Due to poor economic conditions both Charu and Toru had to pick the life of housemaid. Both are working in a city in two different homes as housemaid. Charu got a good home and she was accepted as one among the family members of her master’s home and she also got acquainted with the city life very soon. On the other hand Toru was not that lucky enough like her elder sister. Toru’s master’s son had an bad eye on her and to keep herself safe from the evil intentions of her master’s son she always need to stay careful. After couple of years when both the girls attained a marriageable age, they headed back home but soon both of them found it that it is difficult to stay in a village as they already got the taste of city life. At their employers residence they have the benefit of the lavish life, and after returning from that life back to their village life, they are facing difficulty in their poor, pitiable and dejected life.
Tried to find a way for better living and Charu decided to marry her former master’s driver even though she knew it very well that he is impotent.
